Mercy Baby Born 11:11AM On 11-11-11; Missed 11 Pounds By 1

Special Delivery: Dare we say oceans of eleven?

The St. Louis Cardinals mantra of "11 in '11" became familar in the region as the team made a drive culminating last month in the franchise's 11th World Series title, but a Creve Coeur hospital may be next in line when it comes to notariety with the number 11.

Doctors at Mercy Hospital St. Louis delivered Matthew David Andrzejewski Friday morning (November 11, 2011) at 11:11 a.m. He is the second child for a St. Peter's couple, Dan and Amy Andrzejewski.

Matthew weighed in at nine pounds and 13 ounces, missing 11 pounds by 1 pound and 3 ounces.

Amy said the baby was due November 12 but doctors scheduled her for a C-section delivery a day earlier.

"They picked the eleventh, and the nurse there at the office thought it would be pretty funny to schedule it around 10:45—that maybe there was a chance that (he) would be born at at 11 o'clock," said Amy, who works for Edward Jones in Maryland Heights.

Dan, an employee of Anheuser-Busch, said the idea of 11:11 a.m. became a discussion point as minutes ticked down to the delivery. And it just worked out.

Numerologists (those who find mystical meanings in numbers) may be interested to know this isn't the first time in 2011 that Mercy delivered a baby with a special tie to the number 11. Lucy Rose Casalone was born at Mercy on 1/11/11 at 11:11 a.m. (January 11, 2011.)

Amy Andrzejewski said besides having a good story to tell one day, it will be an easy birthday and time of birth for Matthew to remember.

November 11 is also now the traditional celebrationof Veterans Day in the U.S.

Originally, the date commemorated the signing of the armistice to end World War I. It was chosen as the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month—ending the "war to end all wars" in 1918.

The couple said their 3-year-old daughter Mia, came up with her little brother's first name. His middle name honors a friend and his maternal grandfather David Roby, of Wildwood, they said.
