Cyclist Struck at Parkway's Barretts Elementary School

A man was reportedly struck by a car while riding his bike through the Barretts Elementary School parking lot Tuesday morning.

The following information was supplied by the Manchester Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction where an arrest was made.

William Hetlage, 50, of Manchester was struck by a car while riding his bicycle through Barretts Elementary School parking lot around 8:10 a.m., Tuesday.

The school is located near the intersection of Carman and Dougherty Ferry roads.

Investigators tell Patch a mother had just dropped off her child and was leaving the parking lot when she collided with the cyclist. The man was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur for head injuries, according to Manchester Police Captain Charles Hunn.

Hunn said the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Parkway School District Spokesperson Cathy Kelly tells Patch the incident happened before the buses were there.

I agree, what was the bicyclist doing riding in the elementary school parking lot in the first place! Bicyclists should be banned from riding on public roads, there are plenty of biking trails they can use so they don't foul up traffic. One more thing to all bicyclists, stay off the "flippin" streets during rush hours.
