A body of water on Sachs Properties along Wild Horse Creek Road near the YMCA in Chesterfield has been emptied for shoring up one side against leaks.

The manufactured lake, or pond, was part of the development of property at the corner of Chesterfeld Parkway and Airport Road. It filled with rain water over the years.

But Chesterfield city officials said that a spot under the overflow dam on the far side of the lake was apparently always wet, as though water was leaking from the lake.

After draining the lake/pond of water, treated clay will be spread on the inside to somewhat waterproof the spot, officials said.

Once the work is done, the hole will gradually fill with rainwater again, if all goes as planned and creating the lake/pond.

At one time, the property where the lake/pond is and all around it, was wooded. Then the trees were uprooted, the hole dug for water, and a sign on the property said to expect million-dollar housing units there.

No word on when housing construction would start.
