PHOTOS: 'Girls on the Run' 5K Promotes Fitness
Superhero-themed run brought more than 6,000 participants downtown Saturday.
Girls from just about everywhere in the region raced in the annual Girls on the Run 5K Saturday in downtown St. Louis.
This year, the race's theme was "Be your own superhero."
An estimated 6,000 runners took up the challenge, many in superhero garb.
The organization promotes fitness and self-esteem and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
Girls in elementary school trained twice a week for 10 weeks for the 5K.
