Senator Jane Cunningham Says Farewell to Chesterfield Council
Chesterfield's state senator made her final visit to the city council on Monday night.
Senator Jane Cunningham (R), a resident of Chesterfield, attended her final meeting as a state official.
Cunningham said that she visited the council after every session to report to them how she represented her home city. She said she was very sad she had been unable to keep her district from being split up during redistricting.
"All these years historically, you've been represented by one senator. Now you have three. One from Ladue, one from Kirkwood, and one from Washington, Mo. And I think that's very, very sad," she said.

She said the commission that drew up the final voting map "did not have a St. Louis person on it and St. Louis took a horrible hit. Not just Chesterfield, St. Louis took a horrible hit."
"When this economic area contributes what they do to the state of Missouri, to get the back hand from these people is really unconscionable," Cunningham said.

"I just want to say it’s not only been, over the last twelve years, and honor and a privilege to represent the good citizens of Chesterfield. It has been a pure joy," Cunningham said.
She added that she isn't sure what she will do next. She admitted that it felt good to be "normal" after twelve years and to get out of the rat race. She said her future hinged on the upcoming November elections and what opportunities might become available afterward.
"I'm still kicking and have a lot of energy to give," she said.
