Boone Bridge Car Crash Couple Hospitalized; Traffic Snarled Two Hours

A two-car crash Friday morning on Boone Bridge over the Missouri River sent an older couple to St. Luke's Hospital with moderate injuries and snarled traffic for at least two hours westbound, according to the Highway Patrol.

Traffic backed up into Chesterfield Valley on Highway 40/64. Monarch Fire Protection District, based in Chesterfield, responded to the crash.

Grover, MO couple Tom, 77, and Rosemary Allison, 74, were in a 2001 Buick LeSabre that crashed into a 2000 Ford Expedition driven by Daniel Ahlvers, 51.

Ahlvers, from Weldon Springs, apparently suffered no injuries, police said.

Police said Tom Allison was driving behind Ahlvers in the right lane, when Ahlvers car suddenly slowed after he hit an object lying in the road.

Allison apparently veered left to avoid hitting Ahlvers' SUV, but still clipped the left rear with the right front of his Buick.

Police said two tires on Ahlvers car were punctured from running over the object in the road.

Chesterfield police immediately texted about the crash at 11:15am and closure of all westbound lanes over the bridge, and two hours later at 1:30pm alerted media the lanes were re-opened.

There is no public information on the condition of the hospitalized Allisons, due to privacy laws.
