Rubio was born in Miami in 1971 of Cuban parents, and is married to Jeanette Dousedebes, with four children. They live in West Miami.

He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010 with 48.9 percent of the Florida vote, in a 3-way race.

Rubio was confirmed and married in the Roman Catholic Church, but attended a Mormon church ages 8-11, when the family lived in Las Vegas.

Rubio's chief of staff is former Vice President Dick Cheney's policy advisor.
