YouTube Video: Albert Pujols' Statue Explodes

We found a video showing the Albert Pujols statue at Westport exploding.

Many videos from the Chesterfield area are on YouTube—and Patch looks to find an entertaining one among them. This week's is a very odd video, probably based on someone's frustration with Albert Pujols and his leaving the Cardinals. So, the video shows a rocket destroying the Albert Pujols statue in Westport Plaza, though clearly it's a work of fiction. Note: Non-Patch comments on the YouTube page may contain language unsuitable for children. Know of other great YouTube videos from around Chesterfield? Send a link to jean.whitney@patch.com and you might see it on Chesterfield Patch.

A fantastic show by 150 artists celebrated the 25th anniversary.

On a sunny Mother's Day Sunday, more than 14,000 people passed through Laumeier Sculpture Park this weekend for the 25th annual art fair, featuring ceramics, textiles, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, drawing, sculpture and wood work from 150 artists. The art fair also offered The Art of the Vine, a wine tasting event, as well as a Mother's Day Brunch and a Creation Station, where families were able to make art of their own. Share Memories of Sendak's 'Where the Wild Things Are'

Sendak has died at age 83. Tell us your memories of reading his books—especially "Where the Wild Things Are."

My two children are well above the age when they'd sit still for their mother and father reading a book to them. It won't be that many years before they have their own children. They'll be doing the reading. And I have no doubt that Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" will be among the books they crack open and recite. On Tuesday, we learned that the author of perhaps one of the most famous children's books of all time had died at the age of 83. The New York Times' report said the author had died from complications after a recent stroke. Writers have lauded Sendak's worth, but in particular his ability to craft children's stories out of what might have been considered "untraditional" — monsters "roaring their terrible roars" and "…

Loved to use this story in my KG classroom over the years; the children loved the idea of monsters who were manageable and fun:-) We also loved "Chicken Soup With Rice" and "Pierre." I remember I had the books AND the recordings to go with--we'd sing and sing!   more ›

What's great is the awards give credit and overdue recognition to the talented stage crews, pit musicians, and all others that make a production great. Imagine a musical without music, sound, lighting, costuming, direction, etc. Good Luck Central!   more ›

Cappies Review: Spunk, Energy Mark High School's Production of 'Annie'

Marquette High's Sarah Barger reviews the Northwest High production of 'Annie' for the Cappies, the high school theater review program.

A starry-eyed, red-haired girl escapes into the dark, chilly night in hopes of finding her long-lost parents, who had abandoned her on the doorstep of a New York orphanage. The wind goes straight through her threadbare sweater, but yet, she still trudges on. She will never give up the hope of finding her beloved parents. Northwest High School puts on the happy-go-luck production of Annie, a grand night filled with bright lights and over the-top dramatics. Originally based upon the book by Thomas Meehan, the story surrounds a cheery girl in the folds of Depressions-stricken NYC. It follows the freckled-faced child as she searches to find the whereabouts of her parents, but is taken in by a hard-nosed billionaire where the shenanigans begin…

Student Writes Review of 'Anne Frank' Production

By Rachel McCormick of Pattonville

When Anne Frank received her diary just before going into hiding during World War II, surely she never imagined that it would one day be a source of inspiration for future generations. Not only have her writings been translated into over 60 different languages, but they have been molded into a play, performed locally this past weekend by Parkway Central High School. "The Diary of Anne Frank" is a narrative of a young girl's thoughts and life hiding out from Nazis during WWII in Europe, interspersed with her observations about the people in hiding with her. The group of Parkway Central student actors successfully portrayed nearly every detail of the production, and created a mood of hope, even through despair— something for which "The Diary…

TinTin Movie For Sale On Tuesday

The little white dog and his french-speaking master begin the journey.

A good pirate-style movie with intrigue based on the first of the TinTin series books is set to be for sale Tuesday at Walmart in Chesterfield valley. It's a family movie and very action-packed, with a frisky white dog called Snowy and his french-speaking companion Tin Tin. The animation is slick and the dialogue entertaining. It opened in movie theaters last Fall. It gets five out of five barks—that's a "see this, you'll like it."

Chesterfield-Based Orchestra Wants More 'Partnerships'

It builds an audience.

Now in its fifth season in Chesterfield, the St. Louis Civic Orchestra is looking for more of a partnership with the City of Chesterfield. It gets an arts grant of $3,000 a year. The orchestra's leaders came before the City Council in February, presenting its case about the importance of the arts in a community. The orchestra performs five concerts a year at Logan College of Chiropractic. By way of comparison, the city recently gave Chesterfield Arts $75,000 toward a contest for more sculpture in the city. Subscribe to the free Chesterfield Patch Daily News for updates Last season, the orchestra kicked off the grand opening of Chesterfield's new amphitheater in Central Park, near the YMCA and behind Samuel C.
