A boutique Schnucks market under construction on a corner where the communities of Ballwin, Chesterfield and Clarkson Valley converge, now has decorative elements on the outside walls—evidence that the store is closer to completion. The grocery store is scheduled to open sometime this summer. The first day of summer is today, June 20. The store is on a former single-family-home residential lot that sat unoccupied for a time, before it was turned commercial, the house razed, all vegetation uprooted, and grading and building began. Some Ballwin residents whose homes back up to the lot have …

Of the 87 champions of the E.W. Scripps Company National Spelling Bee, 46 have been girls and 41 have been boys. Co-champions were declared in 1950, 1957, and 1962. (Assuming it was a tie when time was up.) See how Chesterfield's 2012 champ is doing at the National competition. A St. Louis contestant was a co-champ in 1962, Michael Day, and he was sponspored by the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. The final word was "esquamulose" meaning smooth skin, not scaley. Nine newspapers collaborated to start the National Spelling Bee in 1925. In 1941, Scripps took over sponsorship of the National Spelling …
Need a job? How about a second job? Dierbergs groceries has its hiring sign out at the Chesterfield store in Market Place. That's located at Clarkson and Baxter roads. Sign up for a free Chesterfield Patch online newsletter.  The store is open until 11 and midnight, so there may be hours available for second jobs. There are teens working evening shifts, and part-time. There seems to be turnover at the deli counter in employees. But you won't know for certain until you check it out and apply online. Click here.
A good pirate-style movie with intrigue based on the first of the TinTin series books is set to be for sale Tuesday at Walmart in Chesterfield valley. It's a family movie and very action-packed, with a frisky white dog called Snowy and his french-speaking companion Tin Tin. The animation is slick and the dialogue entertaining. It opened in movie theaters last Fall. It gets five out of five barks—that's a "see this, you'll like it."
