Record-Setting Snow Makes For Good Scenery, Hazardous Roads

A number of accidents were reported in the Chesterfield area as a result of the blizzard that passed through St. Louis Sunday.

Sunday’s record-setting snowfall blanketed Chesterfield in white, creating picturesque scenes and delivering one last snow day to students but also posed a significant hazard to drivers with several accidents reported in the area.

The Monarch Fire Protection District responded to four accidents on Sunday, two of which involved injuries. According to the Chesterfield Police Department, the first one occurred at 7:45 a.m. on Highway 40 just west of W. Chesterfield Parkway.

Police said a vehicle struck a median and rolled over after another car cut in front of it. The driver had a cut to her head and was transported to the hospital.

The second incident happened later in the day at 6:35 p.m. on northbound Highway 141 where it intersects with Olive Blvd when a vehicle slid in the snow and struck the center median. The driver complained of chest pain and was also transported to the hospital.

Officially, the National Weather Service reported that Chesterfield received a solid foot of snow while the 12.7 inches recorded at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis was the highest ever recorded in the area for March.Β
