Two Chesterfield Residents Honored as "Ageless Missourians"

William Ball, 82, and Juanita Hartwig, 82, were selected for contributing to their communities long after the age of retirement.

A pair of Chesterfield residents are being recognized for their contribution to their communities at a fundraising gala to benefit St. Andrew's Resources for Seniors Systems

William Ball, 82, and Juanita Hartwig, 82, are among a group of 22 adults in the St. Louis area over the age of 75 who will be honored during the annual event. The honorees were chosen for using their retirement to remain active by continuing careers, embarking on new ones, and lending their time and talents to charities.

Ball enjoyed a long career as a computer science professor at Washington University, and now uses his expertise to provide videography services for the Activities Department at the Willows at Brooking Park where he currently resides. Armed with his own equipment and knowledge of video technology, Ball handles lighting, audio and video production, editing, and prepares event DVDs for residents and their families – all on a volunteer basis.

Hartwig has devoted her retirement to volunteering and serving others. While living in Florida, Juanita assisted at a hospice, where her time was spent counseling women who were diagnosed with breast cancer. Now back in St. Louis, she volunteers at the gift shops at both Brooking Park Retirement Community and The Willows at Brooking Park. She is also active with the West County Assembly of God church, where she not only counsels newly widowed women, but also supports the congregation’s international relief efforts and contributes funds to assist single mothers.

Since its inception in 2003, the Ageless-Remarkable St. Louisians event has raised more than $1.6 million to help St. Andrew's meet the needs of the 8,000 seniors it serves. The gala will be held Nov. 11 at the Hyatt Regency in St. Louis.
