If The Shoe Fits - Cinderella Inspired Puppet Show

County Library Produces Cinderella Inspired Puppet Show

The Youth Services staff of St. Louis County Library will present a puppet show entitled “If the Shoe Fits” at 18 branches as part of the Library’s Summer Reading Club. “If the Shoe Fits” tells the familiar Cinderella story and some of its many interpretations. To view a listing of “If the Shoe Fits” performances, please visit www.slcl.org/events/ or call 314 994-3300.

Youth Services specialist Kelly Bono wrote the script after reading “Glass Slipper, Gold Sandal: a worldwide Cinderella” by Paul Fleischman with illustrations by Julie Paschkis. The book incorporates many of features of the story as it is told throughout the world.

Bono’s version is based on the tale most Americans know, and adds details from Indonesia, China, Iraq and the Algonquin.

“If the Shoe Fits” will feature 18 puppets of varying styles. All the puppets, costumes and props were designed and made by Youth Services’ staff. Each performance will use two employees to give life to the 18 characters. Performances will last approximately 40 minutes.

Youth Services attended a workshop by the Paul Mesner Puppets more than a year ago to learn construction techniques. Their own painting, designing and sewing experience make the puppets delightful.

Schedule at West County Branches:

June 23: Grand Glaize Branch - 2 p.m.
June 30: Daniel Boone Branch - 2 p.m.
