Hundreds of Dancers Descend on Chesterfield

Nearly 700 dancers — from elementary age and up through high school — filled the theater at Logan College of Chiropractic this weekend for a dance competition.

Nearly 700 young dancers from 23 studios around Missouri and Illinois descended on Chesterfield this weekend for the Spotlight Dance Cup 2011 regional competition. Winning entries from the event move on to national championships in Branson, Anaheim, CA., or Seaside, OR. in June and July.

The competition began on Friday and continues through Sunday at the theater at in Chesterfield. Among the visitors grabbing lunch in the theater lobby between performances was Gina Steinmann of Chesterfield, with her daughter Emma, 7, and Kristy Hennessey of Cottleville, with daughter Maddy, 7. Their kids perform with the Dance Inc. studio in Ellisville.

Spotlight Events' dance competitions drew more than 20,000 dancers from 33 cities throughout the West and Midwest last season.
