How Much Homework Is Too Much? Have You Ever Objected?

What's too much homework? Have you ever put your foot down to stop it? Or do you wish there were more?

There is no shortage of articles about this subject available on the Internet. This Parenting Magazine article quotes a National Education Association recommendation that limits homework to a total of 10 minutes per grade level per night. For my son, who enters his senior year this week, that's two hours of homework a night.

Wow.

He's never done anything approaching that much homework. But I know some of his classmates have. He doesn't take honors classes, or AP classes, and he's generally pretty good about using his twice- or thrice-weekly "academic lab" period to work on "homework" (it's what we used to call "study hall," right?)

How about your family? With school already underway in districts such as Francis Howell and many more coming into session this week, how much homework do your kids typically do every night? How much did you do?

Has there ever been a time when you said, enough! Too much! Or are you concerned that they don't do enough?
