Get Ready for the Winter Season

Getting Ready for the Season...

As Realtors we work everyday with people to help them find the "right" new house for their families; we also work with other folks to help get their house market ready, and sold as quickly as possible. This gives us the chance to see and critique many different houses.

A team of ASHI Inspectors tell our clients how good the house is or isn't depending on their findings after house inspections.

With that in mind, we next thought, what if someone came to see our house, what would they see or say?  Some of the things we see, ought to prompt someone to write a book, but we digress.

Given that winter is coming, we thought that a little personal review of our house was in order. We don't want to bore you with the details, but we discovered that we have a lot of work to do to get ready for winter and beyond. This raises the question as to where or how to begin. Work is often made easier if you can start with a check list and measure your progress against it.

There are lots of lists out there, short of taking the time to make your own, so we thought we would start with the basics and then see where it takes us. Home Repair is a good source of information on the Internet for this type of activity.

So you have your list and you are working diligently to complete it; don't think it is all about the house and yard. To be fully prepared there are additional steps that people and families should take to be "ready."

As we all know, the winter weather in St Louis is different as of late...remember the New Years Eve tornado last year, or the severe ice storms resulting in massive power outages; or has anyone seen the news about the early storms in the Northeast? These freak conditions require that we have a plan.

The American Red Cross and others, like the Take Winter By Storm site put out a very good guide for planning for disasters that we hope you find useful. TWBS information is even available in multiple languages.

We need to get back to our list now, so let us know how you're doing with yours...hope it helps!
