Patch went behind the scenes this week at the new Taubman Prestige Outlets, but the area's shoppers will soon be able to take a look for themselves.

The retail center is set to open Friday, the first of two outlet malls that first announced their intentions to locate to Chesterfield more than year ago. 

Earlier this month, Taubman released the details on the opening, including a finalized list of stores and plans for events and special promotions. The 310,000-square-foot center is located on the north side of Highway 40/I-64 at the Boone's Crossing Exit. 

It's inter-Valley rival, St. Louis Premium Outlets, will open Aug. 22 and is located just a few miles away on Chesterfield Airport Road just south of the Daniel Boone Bridge. 

Taubman Prestige Outlets will have 47 stores on day one, including brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Restoration Hardware and Abercrombie & Fitch Outlet. Company officials have said they expect to add more throughout August and the rest of the year, with a total capacity of around 70.  

Gates will open at 9:15 a.m. with the first 1,000 shoppers receiving a $25 gift card. A ribbon cutting ceremony with remarks from local officials and other dignitaries to follow at 9:30 a.m. 

During the ceremony, Taubman will present $10,000 donations to the Humane Society of Missouri and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation, and $25,000 to the City of Chesterfield in honor of the city’s 25th anniversary.

Opening weekend store specials will include:

• J. Crew Factory – 20% off total purchases of $125 or more through Sept. 2. Sweet treats and styling advice (August 2 only).
• Brooks Brothers Factory Store – Free canvas bag with purchase of $150 or more (while supplies last).
• Love Culture Outlet – Free gift with purchase (while supplies last).
• MindWorks Gallery – Free artist painting demonstrations, complimentary refreshments, live entertainment and artwork prize drawing.
• Treats Unleashed – Free treat for every dog that visits the store.
• Pacific Sunwear Outlet – Buy one – get one on selected denim. Receive a mystery gift with any purchase.
