5 Chesterfield Developments that Don't Involve Outlet Malls

Hundreds of million of dollars are being invested in a number of projects across the city.

Chesterfield will soon be home to two 300,000-square-foot-plus outlet centers, but they aren't the only big projects that are currently under construction in the city. Here are five more developments Patch has been tracking:

1) Fortune 500 company Reinsurance Group of America has found what you could certainly call a niche -- essentially providing insurance to insurance companies. It may sound obscure, but it's been profitable for the Chesterfield-based business and they are investing some of that cash to build a new, $150 million complex across from Chesterfield City Hall.

2) Agriculture giant Monsanto is plowing $400 million in to a massive upgrade for its Chesterfield Village Research Center, which is located on W. Chesterfield Parkway. The investment will yield more than 675 new jobs by adding plant growth chambers, offices and laboratory space.

3) Mercy Health is also making a significant investment in the area and is finalizing plans to build a $90 million "virtual care" center. It's a cutting-edge facility that, when built, will allow for feats like remote surgery.

4) A national corporation with hundreds of millions in revenue is locating to Chesterfield this fall. It's focus? Hamburgers.

Wendy's is hoping to open its first location in the city by late August/Early September. I admit, it may not be on the same scale in terms of size, but for fast food lovers it's big news.

5) It's also not the end of the explosion of commerce in the Chesterfield Valley. The St. Louis Premium Outlets are enclosed by the 73-acre Chesterfield Blue Valley development from developer Dean Wolfe. It's designed to attract hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, other retail shops and eventually office space.
