Both Outlet Malls Claim July Construction, Biz Publication Says

Chesterfield's two outlet malls talk about shovels in the ground.

Both delvelopers seeking permits to build outlet stores shopping malls in Chesterfield Valley said that July was the month for groundbreaking, according to St. Louis Business Journal Reporter Evan Binns.

Premium Outlets, , was looking at a July 11 date.

Prestige Outlets at the Boones Crossing exit from Highway 40/64 has already been grading their own site since April, but said an official groundbreaking was set for July 25.

Both outlet developers have said in the past that they are busy negotiating with potential tenants for the proposed spaces. 

Premium Outlets was the first to announce a tenant, Saks Off Fifth. Prestige expects to reveal potential tenants at its groundbreaking ceremony July 25.

has asked outlet developer teams in public meetings about a previous study showing that only one outlet mall would succeed in Chesterfield, financially or otherwise.

"What would make either of you "blink"? Geiger asked. 

Generally, the public has heard from developers that each outlet mall would be better than the other.

Taubman is developing Prestige Outlets. They have asked for a transportation development sales tax to aid in traffic flow projects. Taubman sponsors Chesterfield's Faust Park Summer Concert Series this year.

Simon Properties, with Blue Valley LLC Clayton developer Dean Wolfe, has Premium Outlets underway. This project was approved for an additional sales tax that aids in getting loans for development.

According to Binns, Amiee Nassif said neither developer yet has permits required to begin construction, as of June 26, 2012.

Both developers have said they want to open outlets in time for the 2013 end-of-the-year holiday shopping.
