EdgeWild Gets Strong Reviews Online

Reviewers praise the restaurant’s food and dessert but are less impressed by the noise and wine list.

Finding a quality, independently owned eatery among the abundance of chain restaurants in Chesterfield can be a challenge.

“The biggest disappointment with Chesterfield over the years has been the lack of original, local restaurants,” said Aaron Lademann, who moved to the city from downtown Clayton. “Chesterfield is truly ‘chain-city, USA.’”

But Lademann said that changed for him when he found that promises a “wine country experience.”

Lademann, along with hundreds of other diners, reviewed the restaurant online after in November. Lademann ranked EdgeWild an 8.5 out of 10 in his review on Urbanspoon.

Here’s what other reviewers are saying about EdgeWild online:

  • Urbanspoon—91 percent “I like it” rating
  • Yelp—3 out of 5 stars after 12 reviews
  • Menuism—5 out of 5 stars after 6 reviews
  • Foursquare—378 checkins in under four months
  • Facebook—547 likes
  • Trip Advisor—ranked No. 10 out of 100 of restaurants in Chesterfield
  • Open Table—4.2 out of 5 stars overall experience after 361 reviews

No one dish has emerged on social reviewing sites as the favorite at EdgeWild. Instead, several menu items are being touted as the best, including the scallops (appetizer or entrée), Tuscan steak, truffle fries and bison meatloaf.

The real raving reviews come from customers who ordered desserts, especially the chocolate chip cookie with salted caramel ice cream.

“This was definitely one of the best desserts I’ve had at a restaurant in a long, long time,” said Beth Bechtold Carpenter on Urbanspoon.

The only site where EdgeWild’s reviews aren’t stellar is Yelp, where several reviewers criticized the restaurants noisy atmosphere, small portions and limited wine list.

EdgeWild serves its own wine label bottled with grapes from the west coast and Missouri, but some reviewers said they were disappointed by the wine or by the lack of other brands.

“They only have their wines, so if you are looking for a great wine list, go somewhere else,” said Diane W. of Chesterfield on Yelp. “I was so looking forward to having a wine bar in Chesterfield, but this isn’t it.”

EdgeWild’s owner, Andy Kohn, personally responds to the negative reviews of his restaurant on Yelp. Kohn responded to Diane W. that the restaurant is considering adding a limited wine list to the menu.

“We are also attempting to address the sound/noise problem as well,” Kohn wrote on Yelp. “I hope you will give us another try.”

Lademann said he will undoubtedly give Kohn’s restaurant another try.

“We will be returning to EdgeWild very soon and very often as a welcome departure from the painfully ordinary chain-food fare that litters the streets of Chesterfield, MO,” he said.

The previous restaurant had the same "noisy atmosphere" issue, so I'd guess it's the building design, or materials used. Edgewild said they want to fix it.
