'Prestige Outlets' Gains Sponsorship Foothold in Community

One of two Chesterfield outlets developer to sponsor Faust Park summer concert series.

Developer Taubman Centers of "Prestige Outlets Chesterfield" will be a sponsor for Chesterfield's annual series of summer concerts in the County's Faust Park.

Taubman, based in Michigan, began grading for a 49-acre outlet stores center in April, in Chesterfield Valley at the Boones Crossing exit from Highway 40/64—next door to Hardee's IcePlex.

“We are excited about becoming part of the Chesterfield community,” said Taubman COO William Taubman via email.

“We look forward to partnering with community, business leaders, and travel and tourism officials to bring the best of the world’s fashion retailers to this beautifully designed center worthy of this city,” Taubman said.

The company said it joined the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, and the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission.

Chesterfield's Chamber of Commerce organizes the Faust County Park Summer Concert Series for 10 Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. Concessions open at 5:30 p.m. while concert-goers arrive to reserve their spot under the stars.

Taubman said it also launched a website this week, showing "construction highlights" for its "upscale, fashion forward" outlet mall. The location of the website about Presige Oute was not immediately clear, although Taubman's general online site is www.taubman.com

The open-air shopping center would have some 100 stores over 450,000 square feet. Developers planned an October 2013 grand opening.

"Response from tenants has been overwhelmingly positive," a spokeswoman said in a written statement. ("Taubman) is in the process of completing negotiations with most major retailers to locate in the center."

Taubman estimates the project will generate 750 construction jobs, and employ 1,200 people in retail jobs. They provided this description of the developer:

Taubman Centers is a real estate investment trust engaged in the development, leasing and management of regional and super-regional shopping centers. Taubman's 27 U.S. owned, leased and/or managed properties, the most productive in the publicly held U.S. regional mall industry, serve major markets from coast to coast. Taubman Centers is headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and its Taubman Asia subsidiary is headquartered in Hong Kong.

"St. Louis Premium Outlets"

A different developer, Chesterfield Blue Valley LLC and Simon-Woodland, has begun the city process of approvals for an outlet stores center in Chesterfield Valley. "St. Louis Premium Outlets" would be located on 55 acres on the opposite side of Highway 40/64 from Taubman, and at Boone Bridge over the Missouri River.

Chesterfield Mayor Bruce Geiger says studies show Chesterfield's economy would support one outlet mall, but not two.
