Discover the Most Popular DVDs In Your Zip Code

It's the best way to rent DVDs.

Those who still rent DVDs in three-dimensions (the case and the disc you can hold) will recognize the Redbox kiosks in the foyer of and in and (on Olive) in Chesterfield.

And there is a blue Blockbuster Express rental kiosk at the near Baxter Road. Workers said the machine had been there about two years. See photos.

With Redbox, you can find out the most popular movies in your zipcode. For example, here are the top 10 this week in ZIP 63017:

  1. Drive (2011)
  2. Contagion
  3. Real Steel
  4. What's Your Number
  5. Killer Elite
  6. Moneyball
  7. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Park 1
  8. 50/50
  9. Abduction
  10. Dolphin Tale

Also, kiosk rentals are low-stress, organized as well as convenient, compared to say a Blockbuster store rental on Clarkson Road at Manchester (Kmart shopping center.)

I'd forgotten a number of things about being in a store that rents DVDs. Here's the checklist:

  • long lines to check out
  • kids yelling, running and crying over movies
  • adults hollering at kids over movies
  • "put that back" is the most commonly heard phrase
  • hearing the end of a movie you haven't seen, from someone on their cell phone discussing the choices to rent
  • searching the entire store for a title
  • waiting in the long line to ask if the store has the DVD you can't find
  • piles of high-calorie snacks for sale nearby while waiting in the long line
  • getting to the check out and discovering you're holding blue-ray editions and you don't have that technology at home
  • waiting in the long line again to check out, without blue-ray versions
  • watching the checker have to step around obstacles to hand off rented DVDs beyond the anti-theft devices to leaving customers
  • hearing the checkers shout out the names of your rentals
  • finding out the cost of renting each DVD is more than you thought, after you've waited in the long line to check out
  • feeling like a social loser while waiting in line to rent during prime time on Friday and Saturday nights
  • feeling like a bad parent if renting movies on school nights
  • feeling like a technological misfit while waiting in line, because it's evident you must not subscribe to Netflix.

Have fun no matter how you get a hold of flicks for the family.
