Restaurant Review Round-Up: Babbo's Spaghetteria

See what people are saying about restaurants in the Chesterfield area.

It's often said that one should "go big or home," so if you believe that phrase applies to meatballs, then the Restaurant Review Round-Up is recommending you check out this week's selection, Babbo's Spaghetteria.

The casual Italian restaurant in Chesterfield Valley offers recipes from Sicily and the Northern Italian countryside. According to their website, there's an emphasis on straight-forward dishes and fresh ingredients, with no freezer in the kitchen. Babbo's also has a location in Columbia, Mo., and is owned by restaurateur Michael Del Pietro.

Shawn M. gave it 4/5 stars: "We ordered food to-go here and I thought it was pretty good food. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs because I'm boring and picky like that. I would say that overall, the servings were fairly generous. I couldn't finish my entree mainly because the 2 meatballs were about the size of my fist. They were seasoned well and tasted amazing, too. The spaghetti noodles were a little thick for my taste (I like thinner/angel hair noodles more), but it was a good sauce. "

Tom D gave it 2/5 stars: "Had the caesar salad and the del pietro salad. Both had WAY too much dressing on them. If you must, ask them to go light on the dressing or put it on the side. ... The other dish I had was the tutto mare - not really a fan. They told me the sauce was mostly shrimp and clam broth. What is shrimp broth? I think its just the juice from the can of clams. I would prefer a good tomato sauce, cream sauce, or mix, not the juice from the can of clams."

Debbie M. gave it 5/5 stars: "My husband and I eat at Babbo's frequently.  We find the food to be consistently wonderful.  The Del Pietro salad is fabulous.  I always order the seafood entree and  love it!  My husband will order pasta or pizza usually and again, it's always excellent! Great service, food, atmosphere and very moderately priced!  You won't be disappointed."

A. Brown liked it: "I have eaten at Babbo's several times and the food is awesome! The chicken spedini, and spaghetti and meatballs are excellent. My husband got the lasagna and loved it, there was a huge piece. The salads are very good also. Our service has always been good. The waiting area is non-existent and they will not seat you unless the whole party is there, weird? They could really use a larger space."

Francesca didn't like it: "We had 5 of the 6 people there for dinner - our last friend was working late. They refused to seat us until the 6th person arrived - when then said we would like a table for 5 - the whining was incredible! The manager and her hostess lack professionalism. Their policy will cost them many good customers, I know we will never be back either for personal gatherings or business dinners."
