Third Major Development to Follow Dueling Outlet Malls

Patch news partner Fox2 reports on how even more shops, restaurants, and office space are coming to Chesterfield Valley.

CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI)– Two outlet malls under construction in Chesterfield will be joined by a third development designed to attract hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, other retail shops and eventually office space.

Chesterfield Blue Valley developer Dean Wolfe expects to sign contracts with two businesses by the end of July and have construction underway this fall.  Wolfe owns 73 acres surrounding the Premium Outlets Mall. He envisions a planned commercial area that will serve customers who come to the mall from as far away as Columbia and Cape Girardeau.

The Executive Director of the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce Nora Amato predicts the amenities will help keep shoppers and families attending nearby sporting tournaments in Chesterfield.  “Right now we have about a thousand two hundred hotel rooms in Chesterfield but we’re gonna need more so we can contain  all the visitors in Chesterfield,” she said.

Taubman Prestige Outlets Mall is scheduled to open in early August at a location east of the Premium property and on the north side of I-40/64. The Premium Outlets Mall plans to open August 22.

“We’re welcoming both malls,” said Amato.  Chesterfield Chamber expects the outlet malls to draw shoppers from some distance away and not just compete for local shopping dollars.

Speaking of his Blue Valley development Wolfe said, ” think there will be some benefit to all retail in the valley and including the regional mall (Chesterfield Mall) up on the hill.”

Wolfe owns Wolfe Properties, LLC, a Clayton firm.  An attorney, he formerly handled real estate development for the May Company and specialized in developing regional malls where department stores like Famous Barr were anchor stores.
