The walls are up at one of two Chesterfield outlet malls planned to open next fall, with a portion of the exterior shell of Taubman Prestige Outlets now visible.
The outlet mall is and appears to be on track for the projected date. A press release from the company said foundation work has been completed for the entire structure located near the Boone's Crossing exit off of Highway 40. The erection of walls, electrical work and drainage channel installation are ongoing.
The development is a partnership between Taubman Centers and OutletPartners LLC and is being built on a nearly 50-acre, open-air site and is projected to include more than 100 stores. Some of the tenants announced by Taubman include Banana Republic Factory Store, Gap Outlet and J. Crew Factory.
Its competition, St. Louis Premium Outlets is hoping to open October of next year and recently announced commitments from additional retailers.
St. Louis Premium Outlets is the centerpiece of the 131-acre Chesterfield Blue Valley mixed-use development on old Olive Street Road that will also feature office space, hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues. Simon is currently estimating that the 350,000-square-foot mall will have 85 stores.
The developments are also on the mind of the city's officials, with Chesterfield Mayor Bruce Geiger expressing concern that two outlet malls is too much and city administrators stating that there is little they can do to prevent it.
