Metro Design Studio Salons Collecting Shoes, Purses for Charity

You know those old tennis shoes in your closet that you don't wear anymore, but just don't want to throw away?  How about that purse you got as a gift years ago and never used.  Metro Design Studio Salons is providing an opportunity to clean out your closets while supporting clean-water projects in developing countries.

Metro Design Studio Salons is teaming up with Clean Water Mission, a St. Louis-based 501(c)(3) charity, to collect used shoes, purses and handbags in any condition.  That's right...any condition. Clean Water Mission Founder Julie Scaglione formed the charity to repurpose donated shoes and handbags for sale in developing countries in need of these items at an affordable price.  Through the collection and affordable sale of used, donated shoes, purses and handbags in developing countries, Clean Water Mission helps to grow micro-businesses and local economies, while decreasing the load on local landfills. 

All proceeds raised from this donation drive will go toward the installation of clean-water projects including purification, catchment, and well systems throughout the world. Any condition or style of new or used shoe, handbag, purse, tote and non-wheeled backpack can go a long way to creating clean water.  Collection bins will be set up from Sept. 17 – Nov. 1 in the lobby of all four Metro locations:
