SSM Health Care Gets Top Honor from AARP, SHRM

SSM Health Care, based in St. Louis. The health care organization is being honored by AARP and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as one of the 2013 Best Employers for Workers Over 50.  Award recipients were announced at the June SHRM national conference in Chicago.

 

SSM Health Care joins a diverse group of 50 health systems corporations, government agencies, and non-profits on the list. SSM, which won the Best Employers award in 2003, 3004, 2005 and 2006, boasts a workforce of 37 percent over the age of 50+.

SSM Health Care was recognized for a number of innovations. For example, employees are given monetary incentives to stay healthy through the “LiveWell” health and wellness program. The points-based incentive program, offered to full- and part-time employees, encourages participation in wellness opportunities such as preventative screenings, physicals, smoking cessation programs, wellness coaching, health action challenges, as well as walking, biking and running distance events. Employees who earn and complete point requirements receive incentive payments each pay period.

SSM employees are also offered learning and development programs, flex-time, compressed work schedules, job sharing, telecommuting, and a formal phased retirement program are part of the alternative work arrangements offered to employees working 16+ hours per week.
