Baxter Road Closes for Four Months, Beginning June

A $5.2 million road upgrade necessitates it.

Baxter Road between Manor Creek and Country Ridge Drive will close June 5 through mid-September, to replace a creek bridge with a culvert.

Starting 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, Baxter Road would be blocked from both directions just north of Manor Creek and just south of Country Ridge Drive.

The closure is part of a $5.2 million project by St. Louis County on Baxter Road that included widening parts, adding easements, grading out hills and dips, taking out curves, and enclosing the creek.

During the closure on Baxter:

  • Southbound traffic can go no further south than Country Ridge's intersection with Baxter Road.
  • Southbound traffic will be able to turn left and right on to Country Ridge.
  • Northbound traffic from Clayton Road will be not be able to proceed any farther north than Manor Creek Drive.
  • Northbound traffic from Clayton Road will be able to turn onto Manor Creek Drive, but will be unable to proceed any further north.

The entire project began in Spring 2011 and will be completed in December.

The immediate reason for the total closure is the contractor, Pace Construction, will remove an outdated, rust-damaged bridge and replace it with a new, reinforced concrete box culvert.

No traffic will be allowed within the parameters of the closure.

Country Ridge Drive (east) and Claymont Estates Drive (west) currently are closed, but will reopen to traffic prior to the closure between Manor Creek Drive and Country Ridge Drive.

For questions related to the closure, please contact St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic, since that is the agency responsible for the work of widening, regrading, and replacing a bridge over a creek.
