Why go: This play follows the relationship between an elderly Southern Jewish woman, Daisy Werthan, and her African-American chauffer, Hoke Coleburn. Veteran St. Louis actress Sally Eaton plays Daisy and Dennis Lebby plays Hoke in this story of race relations and friendship.

Second Friday Notes

Why go: This monthly event in the Whole Foods Café usually features two or more poets and one musical performer. Musician Ed Yother, a mandolin and Irish tenor banjo player, will perform this month. Christy Callahan and William Kyle are the scheduled poets. All the artists draw from Irish traditions.

Fridays Uncorked featuring Brian Owens
When: Doors open at 7:15 p.m. Friday, performance starts at 8 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy the smooth, soulful jazz of Brian Owens in the Chesterfield Arts Gallery. Owens has been compared to Bill Withers. Hear some of his songs on his website.

Navigating the Modern Automobile
When: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday
Where: , 16955 Chesterfield Airport Rd.
Why go: Learn all about computer-controlled automobiles. The course will cover preventative maintenance, routine maintenance and tips for what to expect when you take your car to the shop.

Orchid Show
When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
Where: The Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw Blvd., St. Louis, 63110
Why go: This annual events features 800 orchids in a tropical display infused with Maya-themed accents. The garden has a premier orchid collection and this event is the only time when a rotating selection from the historic collection can be seen.
