Get Out: Earth Day, Easter Activities on Offer this Weekend

What: Earth Day Nature Hike
When: 1 to 3 p.m. Friday
Where: August A Busch Memorial Conservation Area, 2360 Highway D, St. Charles
Cost: Free
Why go: Celebrate Earth Day by enjoying some time in the great outdoors. Bring cameras, journals or field guides on this hike as you will be looking for wildflowers, amphibians and more. Be sure to dress for the weather. The hike is ages 10 and up. Reservations are required, but they are taken until Friday. Call 636-441-4554.

Why go: If you’re tuned into the beer scene in St. Louis, you might have heard that Stone Brewing Co., a California brewery, is kicking of distribution in Missouri with a slew of events this week. Head to iTap to check out 14 Stone brews, including a rare keg of Stone Smoked Porter aged in bourbon barrels. Check the list of events on Stone Brewing Co.’s website for the full list of beers.

Why go: Haven’t caught an egg hunt yet? Check out this one, hosted by . There will be a scavenger hunt, games for everyone in the family and a free lunch. The church has asked for an informal RSVP so they can plan for the right amount of food and eggs. Check their website for a video from last year’s egg hunt and to let them know you’re coming.

Cost: Included with admission, which is $6 for adults and $4 for kids
Why go: Check out some Earth-friendly activities. Make a bird feeder from a pinecone or a wind sock from a plastic container. You can also learn how to create a dirt ball butterfly garden. Plus, there will be lessons on the dung beetle, one of nature’s original recyclers.

What: National Day of Puppetry Celebration
When: Workshops at 10:30 and 11:45 a.m. Saturday; puppet shows at 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Saturday
Where: MacDermott Grand Hall in the Missouri History Museum, Lindell & DeBaliviere in Forest Park, St. Louis
Cost: Free
Why go: There’s no better way to celebrate National Day of Puppetry than by watching a puppet show and making puppets. Blaque Berry Puppet Theater will present Puss ‘n’ Boots and “Pape” and Jackie Wright will perform The Lion and the Mouse. Attend a puppet-making workshop so your family can bring the fun home with their own creations.
