Don't Forget: Roads Closed—Wild Horse Creek, Kehrs Mill

Both thoroughfares are closed until July 14, at their intersection, according to the City of Chesterfield and the following information from the website.

Expect significant traffic delays since St. Louis County closed Kehrs Mill Road south of Wildhorse Creek Road, and Wildhorse Creek Road east of Kehrs Mill Road on June 15.

The closures began at first light June 15, and will be in effect until July 14.

This will enable the contractor to remove and replace a box culvert located at the intersection of Kehrs Mill and Wildhorse Creek Road, and perform other work related to St. Louis County's $8.35 million realignment of Kehrs Mill, Wildhorse Creek and Long roads.

Throughout the closure, traffic that ordinarily drives north on Kehrs Mill to reach Wildhorse Creek Road (to go either east or west on Wildhorse Creek or to access Long Road) will be unable to do so.

The detour route is unusually circuitous—but unavoidable. Drivers must take Kehrs Mill south to Clarkson and then turn left (north) on Clarkson to reach Baxter Road. Baxter can be driven to either Edison Avenue or Chesterfield Airport Road. CLICK FOR MAP

To help diminish the anticipated traffic flow tension, Missouri's Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will establish a second "left turn" lane from Kehrs Mill on to Clarkson.

During the month-long closure, motorists are strongly advised to deviate from their usual 'start' times to avoid potentially severe congestion issues at Clarkson and Kehrs Mill.

"Nearly 9,000 cars and trucks travel Kehrs Mill at Wildhorse Creek Road every day, and hundreds of these vehicles will now be turning left onto Clarkson from Kehrs Mill," explained Dave Wrone, public information manager for the County's Department of Highways and Traffic. "We expect considerable congestion at the intersection."

During the one-month closure, drivers headed westbound on Wildhorse Creek will be able to access the gas station located on the north side of Wildhorse Creek Road, east of Kehrs Mill, but can proceed no further. Eastbound Wildhorse Creek drivers, approaching Kehrs Mill, will have to turn left (north) onto Long Road—several hundred yards before actually reaching Kehrs Mill.
