Safety Town, Swim Team Registration Opens

The city is taking applications for two youth summer programs.

Registration is beginning for two kids' summer programs hosted by the City of Chesterfield. Both Safety Town and the city's swim team are accepting applicants.

Safety Town teaches 4-, 5- and 6-year-olds about several saftery issues, including bicycle, water and school bus safety and lessons in how to deal with strangers. There are classroom activities and hands-on activities in Safety Town City, according to a city news release.

There will be six two-week sessions of the program this summer at , 1100 White Rd. Safety Town is staffed by officers of the Chesterfield Police Department and teen counselors from local middle and high schools. Chesterfield Rotary, Chesterfield Kiwanis and the Parkway School District also host the program, the news release states.

The program costs $10. Kids will receive a Safety Town T-shirt, bicycle helmet and coloring book. Registration preference is given to children who haven’t completed the program before. There will be an open registration night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at , 690 Chesterfield Parkway West. 

Registration began last week for the Chesterfield Swim Team. The Crocs compete against other municipal teams in St. Louis County.

The team of 5- to 18-year-olds practices on weekday mornings from June 1 to July 22, a city news release states. There are five swim meets in the summer, plus the conference competition if the swimmer qualifies. Each family must work at three meets.

Registration costs $96 for residents. Non-residents can register beginning April 18 for $116. Registration is limited by age and gender and is processed in the order it is received, the news release states. Register at city hall by May 20.
