Chesterfield Celebrates Earth Day

Start making plans now to save up your recycling materials and attend the 20th Annual Earth Day event in Chesterfield!  The Citizens Committee for the Environment for the City of Chesterfield will host the event.

With more recycling collectors than ever, residents can bring nearly anything you can think of to be recycled including Styrofoam (#6), plastic grocery bags, mattresses, appliances, electronics, cardboard, tennis shoes, books and much more!  Free confidential document shredding will be provided by Cintas.  The Citizens Alliance for Positive Youth (CAPY) and the Chesterfield Police Department will be collecting prescription and over-the-counter medications, inhalers, ointments and patches.  Remains, Inc. will be recycling athletic shoes, which allows them to be remanufactured into indoor/outdoor athletic surfaces.  Tie the shoes together, making sure they are free of mud and metal parts such as cleats or zippers.

Earth Day focuses on the conservation and reuse of natural resources.  The event will include numerous exhibitors including 212 Degrees of Wellness, The Butterfly House, Healthy Harvest Gardens, Prairie Hill Farm Greenhouses, Robinson’s Rain Barrels, St. Louis Composting and many others.   See how alpaca hair is made into yarn and other products and talk with a beekeeper!  Purchase hand crafted products from Creek Walk Designs and Plowsharing Crafts and many other talented vendors.

The Committee will be giving away native trees and plants, CFL light bulbs, and water bottles while supplies last.  Craft activities for kids will be led by Chesterfield Arts and St. Louis Teachers Recycle Center.  There’s something for everyone!
