Chesterfield's Big Day

Get ready for Saturday's unveiling of Chesterfield's newest gem!

I am excited!  I can't remember the last time I was this pumped up about a city project.

Tomorrow is Chesterfield's grand unveiling of multiple park improvements, most notably the new amphitheater.  While there are a number of other park improvements nearing completion, the amphitheater is absolutely SPECTACULAR.

Last night, I sat in a slight misting rain while the St. Louis Civic Orchestra started arriving to rehearse and give the venue a good sound test.  As the maestro began to tap his wand, the skies began to clear and the clouds parted.  The orchestra played, and the melodramatic sweet sounds from Phantom of the Opera wafted into the seating area.

Yes, it may sound a little corny and poetic for a concrete and asphalt guy.  But this place is special.  It is everything I envisioned as Council directed it to be built and plans were prepared.  It is rare that a project ends up better than you originally conceived.

I hope that the area residents come out and enjoy the intimate setting, the architecture, the nature, and the careful planning that went into this venue.  As a city employee, there are landmark events that validate our work and legacy in the community.  This is one of those events.  This is a place where families will gather, friends will meet, relationships will begin!  Chesterfield is still a very new city.  But it is clear that the city fathers have a vision, have developed a character, and have a drive to get the people's business done.  I'm proud to work for the residents of Chesterfield.

There is simply no way to describe it, until you see it.  I hope to see you on Saturday, May 21st.
