Chesterfield Obstetrician-Gyneocologist Dies; Vietnam Vet

Trained at Saint Louis University.

Chesterfield obstetrician-gynecologist Gerard M. Callaghan, 68, died June 7 as a result of colon cancer, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday.

His practice was primarily at St. Mary's Health Center and Mercy Hospital St. Louis, the Post-Dispatch said. He did his residency training at Saint Louis University Medical Center. 

While training, Callaghan was drafted and became a Green Beret in the U.S. Army Special Forces, serving one year in Vietnam, according to the obituary notice.

Callaghan was born in Scotland and went to medical school there at University of Glasgow.

He is survived by a wife and six daughters.

A Mass will be said Tuesday, June 12, 3:30pm at St. Alban Roe Catholic Church, 2005 Shepard Rd. in Wildwood.
