Charlie Gitto's Restaurant Family Loses Matriarch

Chesterfield restaurant remains open for business.

Wife of restaurateur Charlie Gitto, Sr., Annie Gitto, died late Monday night, family friends confirmed. She was in her late 70s.

Annie Gitto, a Sunset Hills resident, is the mother of four—Charlie, Karen, Johnny, and the late George Gitto who died at 38.

The Gitto family operates of a number of Italian restaurants with . Her son Charlie opened it two years ago. He lives in Chesterfield.

Cousins of the Gitto family include Rich and Charlie's restaurant co-founder Charlie Mugavero, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch article.

Other Gitto restaurant locations include "The Hill" in St. Louis, Maryland Heights, and downtown St. Louis.

The Chesterfield restaurant remains open, an employee said.

Services for Annie Gitto were at the Old Cathedral, 209 Walnut St., in St. Louis, earlier this week.
