5 Stats From Friday's DWI Checkpoint in Chesterfield

The Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a sobriety checkpoint in Chesterfield last weekend that snared a number of impaired drivers.

The checkpoint took place from 10 p.m., July 19, to 3 a.m., July 20, on I-64 at the Boone's Crossing exit. Troop C Commanding Officer Cpt. Ronald S. Johnson said the location was determined by past arrests, incidents and traffic crashes in the county.

The highway patrol stopped a total of 573 vehicles during the 5-hours period. Here are the stats from the operation:

  • Warnings issued: 9
  • DWI arrests: 6
  • Drug arrests: 2
  • Hazardous moving citations: 2
  • Seat belt citations: 1
"The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators," Capt. Johnson said. "The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

Police also asked anyone who suspects they see an intoxicated driver to report the incident by calling 911 or *55 on a cell phone.
