Another Case of a Dog Locked in a Hot Car in Chesterfield

It's at least the third such case in Chesterfield this summer.

It's happened a second time in the same month and at least the third time this summer. On Aug. 30, Chesterfield police cited a 53-year-old woman for leaving her dog in a locked car in a city parking lot.

This time, it was at the Lowe's parking lot on THF Boulevard in the Valley.

"She was issued a summons in lieu of arrest," said Officer Mike Ryffel, spokesman for the Chesterfield Police Department. "A passerby saw the dog unattended in the vehicle and called us. The officer was able to locate the owner inside Lowe’s and the summons was issued after it was determined the dog was not injured."

The incident was reported at about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 30. By 1:20 p.m. that day, according to the National Weather Service, temperatures in the St. Louis area were at 102 degrees — though they would not have been that high at 11:30 a.m.

On Aug. 1, a 46-year-old woman was issued a citation after leaving her dog for about 20 minutes in the parking lot at the Chesterfield Mall.

Earlier, a 56-year-old male was also fined for a similar incident at S. Outer 40 Road and W. Chesterfield Parkway July 24.
