Original story: An armed robbery at a Chesterfield gas station this morning ended unsuccessfully when the suspect fled after spotting a customer approaching the store.

Two male suspects pulled up to the Shell station, located on Olive Boulevard just north of Highway 40, sometime between 10:10 a.m., according to Chesterfield Police Captain Steven Lewis.

One of them then left the vehicle, went into the store, pointed a firearm at the gas station clerk and demanded money.

Lewis said the heist, however, was interrupted when another person began approaching the gas station. The suspect then ran back into the waiting vehicle and fled.

No money was taken and the clerk was uninjured, Lewis said.

An employee of the gas station declined to comment, citing company policy.

As previously reported by Patch, police arrived at the gas station shortly after the robbery attempt and blocked off the entrances to the business until around 11:50 a.m.

Police are currently interviewing witnesses and analyzing security camera footage in an attempt to identify the suspects. No details on the type of firearm used in the attempted robbery was available.
