Chesterfield Crash Killed Wildwood Woman Wednesday

Police identified a woman killed in a multi-car crash on Interstate 64 Wednesday afternoon as Laura Dunn, 48, from , reported by KSDK near midnight.

Dunn died after the car she was driving was rear-ended while traveling westbound on I-64 just east of Clarkson at 3:42 p.m., according to Chesterfield police. Traffic was diverted onto Chesterfield Parkway East.

Dunn's vehicle was pushed into the path of an oncoming Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 57-year-old James Saale of Chillicothe, MO; the chain reaction pushed her car into a fourth car and into a ditch.

Patch's check of the Missouri State Highway Patrol report put the time of the accident at 3:33 p.m. Dunn was driving a 2004 Hyundai Elantra.

Dunn was pronounced dead at the scene by Monarch Fire Protection District emergency responders.

Police closed all but one lane on westbound Highway 40, and said to expect "lengthy delays" which turned into several hours.

KMOV-TV reported the chain reaction accident started when a 25-year-old man driver allegedly hit the back of Dunn's car. The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the driver as Jeffery Dobner of Foristell, MO. He was driving a 2011 Volkswagen, which was totaled.

The fourth driver involved was 41-year-old Courtney Birkel. She is a Chesterfield resident, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Sienna.

No other injuries were reported. All drivers were wearing safety belts, according to officials.

Dunn was apparently nearing home, not far from Clayton at Clarkson roads.
