Chesterfield Man Dead In Highway Crash

A one-car crash, flipped vehicle and driver without a seat belt proved fatal Friday.

A 40-year-old Chesterfield man was killed Friday in St. Francois County when he veered off Route Y to one side then crossed back over to the other, and hit an embankment.

Charles R. Webster was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Jim Coplin, along Route Y about a mile east of Brickey Road, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Webster was traveling west about 5 p.m. in his 2003 Chevrolet Venture Friday on Route Y when he ran off the right side of the road on a curve left.

Police said Webster apparently over-corrected the vehicle, crossed back onto the road, veering left, hit an embankment on the other side of Route Y—and the car overturned.

Webster apparently was not wearing a seatbelt and was partly ejected through the passenger side front window of vehicle, according to the Highway Patrol.
