Chesterfield Man Stole Percocet From Pharmacy, Police Say

A man dashed out of Walgreens with the prescription painkiller after his credit card was declined, police said.

A Chesterfield man was charged Tuesday with stealing the potent painkiller Percocet—a prescription drug—from a Clayton pharmacy.

James Romero Jr., 41, of the 2200 block of Village Green Parkway in Chesterfield, made off with the Percocet after a pharmacy clerk stepped away from the counter, according to Clayton police.

It was at the 24-hour  on 6733 Clayton Road, in Clayton.

Bond was set at $10,000 for Romero.

Clayton police said when Romero returned at nearly midnight March 10 to pick up a Percocet prescription at Walgreens, his credit card was declined.

Romero then tried to pay with a check, but the Walgreens clerk deemed it suspicious, and walked away momentarily into the store's office, according to a police report.

That's when Romero grabbed the Percocet and left without paying, police said in court documents.

Romero was charged with stealing a controlled substance.

Percocet is known to be a widely used, and abused, painkiller.
