Chesterfield Planning DWI Check Points This Month

The department says the technique is effective at getting drunks off the road.

We don't know where, but we know roughly when: The Chesterfield Police Department is planning to conduct a series of DWI check points throughout the month of June to nab drunk drivers.

According to the department's news release: "Officers will be checking motorists in an effort to reduce the number of intoxicated drivers on our streets and highways. Inconvenience to motorists will be minimal. Those officers participating in the enforcement effort have had additional training in the recognition of motorists who have had too much to drink or are under the influence of illegal drugs. Officers will also issue citations for seat belt and other violations."

Department officials said the use of check points "has proven to be an effective method" to get drunks off the road.
