Chesterfield Arrest of 'Major Case Squad' Brass Made Bail

Chief administrator, retired cop, was DWI at sobriety checkpoint, police said.

Chesterfield police arrested a retired St. Louis police captain and Major Case squad chief at a DWI checkpoint on Clayton Road.

Robert Bauman, 68, was driving drunk Sunday morning when he was stopped in the 14700 block of Clayton Road as part of a routine sobriety checkpoint, according to Chesterfield Officer Steve Lewis.

Lewis said Bauman made bail, and was released.

Bauman is administrative head of the area's pool of police investigators who are called into action in the event of a major crime, such as homicide.

Bauman retired from the City of St. Louis police department after 35 years, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
