Chesterfield Resident to Head Special Operations Division

The St. Louis County Police announced the promotion of Jon Belmar earlier this month.

Chesterfield resident and veteran police officer Jon Belmar is climbing the ranks of the St. Louis County Police Department.

The law enforcement agency recently announced that Belmar has been promoted to the rank Lieutenant Colonel and placed in charge of the Division of Special Operations.

Belmar will be one of the four Lieutenant Colonels who serve directly underneath Chief Tim Fitch and his responsibilities will include a wide range of units, including tactical operations, metro air support, highway safety, canine and Metrolink.

His career with the county police spans 27 years and includes 87 awards, commendations and letters of appreciation.

He has served as a commander in the Affton Southwest Precinct and Bureau of Crimes Against Persons Unit and as a supervisor in the Bureau of Crimes Against Property and the West County Precinct.

Belmar was also in the Tactical Operations Unit, South County Precinct and Affton Southwest Precinct. He has a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas State University and was a graduate of the 228th session of the FBI National Academy
