Local Firefighters Deployed To Assist With Sandy Search and Rescue Relief

Missouri's Task Force 1 is scheduled to be in Virginia by late Tuesday afternoon.

Three Monarch Fire Protection District firefighters/paramedics have been mobilized to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy as part of Missouri Task Force 1, an urban search and rescue unit.

The unit had been on standby since yesterday morning along with similar teams in Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee and got the call from FEMA last night, departing from the Boone County Fire Protection District overnight.

The unit, which includes 80 people and 100,000 lbs of equipment according to a news release, is due to report to Herndon, VA by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Members of the unit were deployed to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac last year, and most notably, Ground Zero in New York City following the 9/11 terror attacks
