Man Found Dead After Accident on I-64 Near Chesterfield

Authorities say Richard M. Mellenbruch, 46, of Ballwin, was found dead in the car he was driving, after an accident Monday morning along Interstate 64.

According to KMOV.com, a man was found dead inside a Best Buy “Geek Squad” car on Highway 40 near the Research Park exit in St. Charles County near the Daniel Boone Bridge in Chesterfield.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, that man is now identified as Richard M. Mellenbruch, 46, of Ballwin. The MSHP crash report states Mellenbruch  was heading east on Interstate 64 just before 9 a.m. Monday, when he suffered from a medical condition. 

The car reportedly veered left, struck the concrete median and crossed back across the eastbound lanes before going off the road and stopping in a group of trees.

Mellenbruch was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS crews and no one else was injured.

Authorities say Mellenbruch was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
