Mysterious House Fire Behind Baxter Road Near Closure

Chesterfield house loses major ceilings to get to fire in attic.

A house in a neighborhood just behind Baxter Road at Country Ridge was ablaze noon on Monday, when Monarch Fire Protection District arrived.

The house is in the 15000 block of Lake Clay Drive.

When firefighters got to the house, smoke was spewing out from under the eaves, and a back corner of the house was in flames, officials said.

Firefighters went in through the garage wall to get at the fire in the attic and also had to break through ceilings inside the house to squelch the attic blaze.

The house fire was under control within 25 minutes, Monarch spokesman Roger Herin said.

Apparently a worker and two occupants got out of the house when they became aware of the fire, and called 9-1-1 for help.

Herin said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
