The pair were in a black 2012 Infiniti SUV that apparently crossed into oncoming westbound traffic on Olive and slammed head-on into a silver 1998 Honda Accord, killing Pfeiffer, 18.

The driver of a white 2007 Dodge truck, Jerome Drapp, 46, of St. Louis, was not injured when the SUV clipped the truck before hitting Pfeiffer's car, Chesterfield police said.

The driver of the SUV Dale Kawamura, 35, and passenger Steven Hammer, 32, are both from Oakland, CA.

Hammer was treated and released the morning after the crash. Kawamura was released some time after that, officials said.

It was not immediately clear what contributed to the wrong-way manuever in the collision.

. Traffic was tied up for several hours afterward.
