Office Manager Embezzeled from Eye Docs Over Five Years

Rebecca Wagstaff must pay back $126,822 and spend a year in prison.

A 58-year-old Arnold women was sentenced to felony mail fraud Friday after admitting guilt in May to embezzling $126,822 from a Chesterfield ophthalmology group.

Rebecca Wagstaff was the general office manger of West County Ophthalmology, Inc., located in the St. Luke's Hospital complex.

Between 2005 and November 2010, Wagstaff paid her credit card bills and other expenses with employer checks. 
 
Wagstaff was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Jean C. Hamilton.
 
The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael W. Reap handled the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, Eastern MO.
