Online Fraudster Cheats Chesterfield Resident

He had purchased what he thought was gold through an online ad on Craigslist.

A Chesterfield man who tried to make a buck flipping gold he purchased online has found out the hard way that appearances can be deceiving.

The victim, whose name was not released, filed a report with the Chesterfield Police last month. Police said the man purchased the gold from another individual through an online ad he saw on Craigslist and initially that he had the genuine article.

However, when he then tried to take the supposedly valuable metal to a gold buyer in St. Louis, they told him he was in possession of a fake.
